Artist Open Calls must be attended in person by the artists
themselves.
This is non-negotiable, do not ask!
  • If an artist’s schedule prevents them from appearing in person at
an artist open call, then they will have to wait for a more convenient
Open Call date, or rearrange their schedule to make the time to
be present during the time the gallery and our volunteer jury, has
set aside to see new artists during the Artist Open Call.
  • If an artist does not normally represent themselves in regards to
the showing and selling of their own artwork, an Artist’s Legal
Representative can be placed on file to handle future Private Calls
between the artist and the gallery.  This will only be acceptable
once an artist has attended the Open Call in person, they have
been invited to show in the gallery, and have attended the first
Private Call with their chosen representative and signed the
necessary legal documents giving that person power of attorney to
legally represent them and to sign legal contracts for them.

The gallery only shows/sells original artwork placed on
consignment by the artist who created it.
  • Due to the on going controversy of giclee and other types of
reproductions of original artwork, Oxide Gallery only shows
    original artwork.
  • The only known exceptions to this rule is in regards to
photography, or when the reproduction has been used in full or in
part to create a totally different type of artwork, such as greeting
cards, or used to create a new mixed media or collage piece.
  • Photography is exempt from this rule as re-prints are inherent to
that form of art and is expected by even the most novice art
    collector.

The Gallery will not show/sell original artwork that has had
reproductions made from it.
  • There is a sense of pride that goes along with purchasing an
original piece of artwork, and nothing damages this more than
when you find a high quality copy of your original artwork hanging
elsewhere.  In today’s world of quality giclee’s, and other forms of
reproductions, it’s too hard for the inexperienced to see the
difference.  Therefore, only original artwork that has not been
    reproduced will be accepted.
  •  Though we recognize it takes a certain level of talent, the practice
of painting fully or partly over a photograph or reproduction of
another original piece of artwork, such as giclee, in order to make
it appear to be an original hand painted piece of artwork is not up
to the gallery’s standards and will not be accepted.
  • Exception: Painting on top of your own piece of photography to
create a mixed media piece or to add another layer to your
creation is acceptable as long as it is apparent that you are not
trying to create an exact painted reproduction of the original
    piece.
