Terry Karloff is an Americana/Oddities’ Photographer who has made a
significant contribution to the art society in Denton, TX. Terry was born
in Harrisburg, Pa. She was raised in a middle class home with two
younger sisters. One of those traditional homes where her mother
stayed home and her father went to work every day. It was the simple
life. In 1965, at the age of ten, the family was uprooted to a job site for
my dad that ended up in Warner Robins, GA. These years in Georgia
were developmental years and Terry took an interest in art.
After graduation from high school in 1973 Terry decided on a career in
nursing and attended Medical Center of Middle Georgia School of
nursing where she received her RN. She then moved to California and
practiced nursing for 20 years. After yet another move to Texas in 2004
she continued in nursing for 2 more years before hanging the
stethoscope up!
After turning 50 she found it very necessary to reinvent herself. She
knew there was something about that first Brownie camera she got for
Christmas in 1964 that stayed with her throughout her life, so she chose
to explore her love of Photography. She has taken classes at TWU in
Photography and PhotoShop, as well as working one on one with a local
photography artist.
Terry has been showing at Oxide Gallery in Denton since it opened in
2008. She is a member and has shown in the galleries of VAST (Visual
Art Society of Texas) and VACD (Visual Art Coalition of Dallas. Terry
has been featured in our local 380 Guide Magazine, as well as photos
published by The International Library of Photography’s book “Collected
Impressions” hardback.
The one thing that excites Terry the most is capturing a second of a
piece of time to show others that may never see that particular thing.
The icing on the cake is to have people like it!
